Monroe Mann gave a TEDx called, "You Are the CEO of Me, Inc."

As we shared earlier in the post called The Brand Called You (by Tom Peters), you need to think of yourself as the CEO of Me, Inc.

But once you do, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.  Thinking of yourself as the CEO of Me, Inc. is a lot different than acting that way.

A simple way to start acting like the CEO of Me, Inc. is to recognize that your company (you) has many different projects and departments!  For example:

Me, Inc.

Marketing        Finances        Human Resources        Advertising        Recreation Planning          Projects   etc.

And that last one, let’s look at that:

Projects

Write Novel        Get Married        Make a Million Dollars       Visit China      Volunteer
etc.

If this looks like a hierarchical chart of a fortune 500 company… you’re right!  That’s precisely what it is, and precisely how you need to approach your life–your business: “Me, Inc.”

Many people shy away from this, complaining, “My life isn’t a business!”  Well, maybe that’s why you haven’t accomplished many of your dreams.

Think about it:
* if you managed your income and expenses more seriously, what changes might you see?  <— Finances
* if you handled your reputation better, and acted accordingly, what improvements would you see in your life?  <— Marketing/Advertising
* if you really took inventory of who you hang out with, and how often, and where, might you get more done and be more motivated?  <— Human Resources

Our lives are more like businesses than we realize.

As such, those of us who start with “Me, Inc.” at the top, and constantly evaluate how we are running that business are going to do much much better, and more importantly, feel better.

So do yourself a favor and create your own “Me, Inc.” umbrella today, and start laying out on paper all of your various departments, and sub-departments, so you can really get an inventory of who you are, what you’re doing, and where you’re going.  Then, put that chart up on the wall!  You’re going to be so proud of yourself, and it’s going to fill you with great enthusiasm.  In fact, instead of putting “Me, Inc.” at the top, put your name, like, “Monroe Mann, Inc”.  You ARE a company.  Believe it!

Bottom line, if you take the time to figure out what you need to do to make your next ‘business quarter’ a bigger success, well, that’s half the battle!  Then all you have to do is EXECUTE!

Meet you at the top!
