About Break Diving
Break Diving is an American 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation with one primary mission: helping people worldwide find success, happiness, and friendship. Our primary method for doing this is our online social-media community and education hub found right here at BreakDiving.io. Please find all current position vacancies below.
NOTE: Please see the role descriptions at the bottom of each page to help you understand the different responsibilities.
To be a staff volunteer, can you confidently answer yes to each of these questions?
Dr. Monroe Mann - Founder of Break Diving
PhD, Attorney, MBA, Executive Director, & Team Leader
If you really love our mission, love being a member of our community, and love being a part of a close-knit and professionally run team, you’ll love it here. The commitment is full-time, but very flexible and asynchronous. You’ll learn a lot, grow as a person, get to share your opinions, and be a part of a team that is changing the world. As a full team member you will be a part of the coding team, the marketing team, and also the finance team. Your contributions will focus in one of these areas, but everyone contributes everywhere, and that's what makes our team so close knit. If you love to learn, you'll love it here.
To become a volunteer and start your journey as a Break Diving Team Member, complete the following six steps
Step 1 of 6
Research and Apply
Step 2 of 6
Become Part of the Community
Join the BD - Vopportunities chatroom and express your interest.
Earn 50 points total, in all areas of the site. Keep your points at or above 25 on the 7-day leaderboard at all times, bare minimum.
You can do this by being an active member for at least two weeks, and participating as part of the BD - Welcome Team. This includes: welcoming new members, helping them, and being actively present in the community and chatrooms.
You must join two live events and participate for the entire hour.

Break Diving Team Member
One of the most important things I've rediscovered is how the sense of purpose makes a person fully alive. I wanted to send this message to as many people as I can and hope that many allow me to engage in this conversation. Break Diving is allowing me to do this aside from creating the opportunity to develop my personal, professional and technical skills. It really is a complete package and I am so glad to have been accepted to the superb team that makes all this possible and worthwhile.
Step 3 of 6
Video Interview
You must have working WiFi, audio, video, and microphone to work on our team. The very relaxed and low-key interview will be conducted after attending your first live event, so sign up for that soon.
If after we complete the interview, if we feel we need additional information from you to make a decision, we may make such a request. Otherwise, we will move you to the next phase, the main focus of which is communication. You must provide regular daily updates in the Vopportunities chatroom on your progress towards completing all of the steps. This is important to show that you are capable of succeeding in our online remote environment.
Step 4 of 6
Coding Basics and First Dives
We require that volunteer applicants submit at least two coding dives, and one must be a backend dive (Rails, Ruby, Django, Java, Python, PHP, NodeJS, C, C++, or comparable). You can get started on this step at any time.
If you're new to coding, start learning the basics of HTML, CSS, Javascript, Ruby, Rails, & SQL by visiting and using the Break Diving dive handbooks. Submit your first coding dive as quickly as possible. Ask questions in the community for help on your coding journey. The sooner you get started, the sooner you can volunteer with us. Note: some backend frameworks like Rails and Django also require a basic competency in the foundation languages, i.e. Ruby and Python.
If you are already competent with the basics in one or two of the required coding dives, and can prove it, go ahead and pursue those dives, and immediately submit the certifications.
Bhavya Bhandary - Leadership Team
Break Diving Team Member
I love working at Break Diving. The team members are kind and friendly and always inspire me to push myself to improve my skills. On the team, everyone is a leader and gets the opportunity to challenge their creativity and come up with new ideas. I believe in Break Driving's mission. In the community, I get to meet people from different countries and learn about different cultures and languages.
Step 5 of 6
Github
Visit github.com and setup an account there.
Go through as many Git and GitHub tutorials that you can find on the site. Also complete the Git tutorial on W3Schools.com. Next, watch the git video created by Break Diving on our YouTube channel.
Also visit our dive handbooks and find the one for Git/Github.
Step 6 of 6
Knowledge Challenge Tests
Please visit the Volunteer Challenge Section on the .org site, and take the GENERAL test as well as the CODING test.
Yes, answer ALL sections (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced) to the best of your ability. You can use Google/Bing to find the answers. You are also welcome to take any of the other challenge tests if you are interested and want to showcase your knowledge and experience.
This may take you a while, so get started as soon as you can. NOTE: You can do many of these steps out of order. Just keep us informed where you are, and what you've completed.
If the above seems a bit too overwhelming for you (and you're not interested in coding), you can also help informally by joining the community and helping us out in a more informal capacity from the Vopportunities chatroom! Make sure to click the 'member vopportunities' at the top of this page for more information, and after you apply and are accepted, we can find some important simple tasks for you to accomplish.
Ileana Argyris - Leadership Team
Break Diving Team Member
Volunteering at Break Diving has pushed me to grow in all aspects of my life. It challenges me to be a better leader, marketer, coder, and team member. I love coding new features and coming up with ways to help our members be as successful as they can be.
The Team
Break Diving Founder Monroe Mann: PhD in psychology, attorney, MBA in finance, Masters in entrepreneurship, LLM in commercial real estate, and 2022 BS in Computer Science. Bronze-star nominated Iraq veteran (Captain). 10-time published book author. Linguist (Chinese, French, Italian). Expat: China, Switzerland, France. Ruby on Rails web developer. YouTuber. Filmmaker & Actor (See: "You Can't Kill Stephen King" on Amazon Prime). And more.
Bhavya and Ileana round out the leadership team with impressive SQL, Javascript, and CSS/HTML skills, leadership ability, and a very helpful feminine touch. We have a team of equally impressive individuals who together have helped us accomplish so much. Bottom line: we are a rockstar team of winners.
As a result, the application process can take anywhere from 4 - 12 weeks, depending on whether you have already been a member of our online community for some time. We only let people officially join the team who first 100% prove their love of our mission (by first being a member of our community) and then proving to us that they can succeed on our team (by evincing all the qualities of a good team member through accomplishment of our 6 pre-team volunteer tasks). In other words, volunteering with us is not a clichéd "chance to give back"; it's a chance to dramatically improve the world, change its shape, and make it so much better. As a result, you can start volunteering with us from day one, but you are not invited onto the team until after a) you've proven that you care more about our long-term mission than improving your short-term resume, and b) you've proven you will help us move faster in fulfilling that mission (by completing the many required application tasks). Remember: it's not about you. It's about our mission and our members. Only those who understand that get to join our team.

Break Diving Member from Pakistan
Honestly I think Break Diving is a place where you can overcome any of your fears. This community is like a family where everyone is happy to help one other and anyone can ask for help freely because no one is here to judge or criticize you. You can pretty much share anything here. No matter if you are going through good or bad times everyone in this community is there for you. I don't have many friends here in Pakistan but when I am here on Break Diving, it's like everyone is my friend or part of my family. You know, I am really an introvert, but after joining Break Diving, I just want to put myself out there and meet new people and get out of my comfort zone! I am noticing a lot of positive changes in my life.
Step 3 of 6
Remain an Active Member
We want members to help us who truly love our community, and who we know are not going to disappear after a week.
Therefore, you can't become a member volunteer after a week of joining. It could be one month, it could be three months, but we need to feel comfortable that you're going to be regularly active in the community each week, and are dependable.
Step 4 of 6
Choose Areas of Contribution
You can currently assist in the following areas: country coordinator, city coordinator, chatroom moderator, event host, event co-host, handbook creator, welcome team, blog content writer, blog manager, dive committee, dive certification team, dive coordinator, dive country coordinator, dive city coordinator, etc.
You will find vacant positions below that you can apply for.
Amos Adeyemo
Break Diving Member from Nigeria
When I first joined the Company of Break Divers, initially I thought it was just about getting to know the members, and what they were up to. However, the experience here with other Break Divers quickly cleared this illusion, as members provided suggestions, analysis, help, ideas, and the desire to help me fulfill my dreams irrespective of the obstacles. The Break Diving community is a group of people that keeps communication flowing without self-centeredness and egotistical sentiments. The individuals here want to understand you, your dreams, and what you're doing to bring them to fruition. They don't leave you without helping. They provide suggestions, skill development, and even encouragements to let you know you're not alone. They are like Able-soldiers fighting your armies and their armies at once in as much as you open up to them. I encourage as many as possible with great dreams to consider joining.
Step 5 of 6
Determine Requirements
Each position requires a minimum level of expertise and experience. The staff will work with you to determine if you're best fit for the position.
Step 6 of 6
Meet the Requirements and Apply
Once you feel you have met the minimum requirements for that particular position, let us know in the vopportunities chatroom.
Gay Mare Capones
Break Diving Member from the Phillippines
What I love about Break diving are the better opportunities to learn from the advice and tips from staff and members and the privilege to learn from the many things Break Diving offers like foreign language practice, learning about new cultures, and sharing information about the economies of the world. I even have the privilege to share my own story, earn certification for my life accomplishments, and enhance my English vocabulary. At Break Diving, there are no more excuses for my 'whys' for not doing something because through Break Diving, I now know what I want to achieve and have the tools to do it. This platform and the network it provides gives me a hope to create a better start up in my career. It is a step-by-step lifelong journey for me to be involved with. I am hoping for my improvements and my aspirations to motivate members and non-members around the world. I also noticed that by being a member of Break Diving, I have found the guts to explore myself. I am challenged to push myself to reach my goals. And the best part is that everyone works as a team to help all members to reach their goals in life.

Break Diving is one of the best communities. There is so much positive energy that even if someone joined with negativity, it is impossible not to be automatically won over by positivity! With so many people hurt and wounded by the world's negativity, Break Diving is definitely a great place to heal, grow, and thrive
