Each of the below learning paths prescribe a recommended set of tasks, books, courses, etc. to help you put together a study plan. Remember the Break Diver's Creed: No Rules. No Excuses. No Regrets. Go make it happen!
Beginner
- Find learning materials that give you an overview of drawing. You can find some of the best in our 'resources' section for Drawing.
- Expand your imagination so that you can realize that you are competent enough to draw whatever you want and with whichever tool you choose.
- Definitely make sure to have a good set of drawing tools For some, it’s just pencil and paper. For others, it’s a full suite of drawing tools. There are a number of free and paid resources options you can choose from. Refer to in the ‘resources’ section.
- Watch instructional videos regularly.
- Draw! Every day.
- Drawing is not just a bunch of straight lines. Rather, it’s a collection of geometrical shapes that you have to always be aware of.
- Be sure to check out all of the 'Beginner Resources' here in this handbook.
Intermediate
- By the intermediate stage, you should have a good number of drawings to your name. Drawn and polished.
- You should have some drawings published or have posted at least a few of your drawings on one of the drawing platforms (including Break Diving). We really hope you will share some of your drawings on Break Diving!
- You should now be able now to combine some sketches and wrap them up into a whole series, such as a short comic book or manga, or a ‘subject series’.
- Take even more drawing classes to continue to improve your drawing skills.
- Draw MORE, MORE and MORE, and keep on polishing your creative skills and imagination.
- Observing nature may also be helpful.

Advanced
- By this stage, you should have a full portfolio of drawings of all shapes and sizes, and all subjects too! Vehicles. Animals. Buildings. Nature. Cartoons. Everything.
- You should be able to easily now draw straight lines, perfect circles, human hands, flowers, human faces, and more.
- Hyper realistic drawings should be easy for you now.
- You should be able to look at anything, and draw it well.
- You should be able to draw accurate portraits of others.
- You should be able to do some caricatures of people you know.
- You should be able to draw completely from imagination whatever someone asks you to draw.
- Don’t stop. Keep drawing more and more.
- Start to prepare to get a first drawing to be published or displayed at a gallery.
