What does it take to succeed in this dive?

Pursuing this amazing career will require a good amount of your time.

In order to be a professional nurse, you need to learn, memorize, and master a huge body of knowledge.  There are also the practical parts--you will be spending many hours training on how to use many different types of equipment and devices.  These things all will take time, patience, and experience to master them well.

More specifically, if you want to become a professional nurse:

1. You will have to spend 6 to 20 hours per day studying each semester.   How much time will depend on how many courses you are taking that semester?

2. You have to focus on your field skills.  You really have to train your hands on how you can give an injection or insert a cannula or take vital signs, etc.  Do not rely on observation only -- trust us, it won’t work.

3. You have to work hard to find practical experience in the hospital.  Without practical experience, you are not a nurse.

4. You have to always seek out new situations, new cases, and new problems.  Try to find different types of patients and problems so that you are continually growing.
